About Smallwood House Hotel, Ambleside

The house was built around 1880 using Westmorland Slate quarried from local mines. Although the building is over 100 years old the interior has been updated to offer accommodation which is pleasant and tasteful and includes en-suite bedrooms with tea/coffee making facilities, televisions, clock radios and hairdryers.

 All our meals are homemade and freshly prepared.  Evening meals are served on one week of each month - between March & October.

We offer a full range of  breakfast items, Claytons homemade black pudding from Windermere, is delicious along with your egg & bacon.  We also offer kipper fillets, homemade bread, fruits & yoghurt.   A continental style breakfast is also available for those with a lighter appetite.  We keep a selection of vegetarian and gluten free foods for those who prefer them.  If you should have any other special food choices please do let us know.

We can make up packed lunches for your day out, with our homemade gingerbread - we are told the sheep quite like it too!

A regularly updated table d'hote is available and we are happy to cater for any special dietary requirements if given prior notice. We try to create an informal atmosphere in which guests can feel relaxed and comfortable.

In the lounge, guests can play games chat together or simply relax. We love to hear the laughter from a group of friends gathering in the evening before going out.

Pets are welcome, and many return with their owners year after year.
