By Car from the South
Following the M6 Junction 36 then follow A591 to Ambleside, follow the one way system through the town Compston Road is part of the A591. We are situated on the right hand side approximatelyhalf way up.

By car from the north
M6 Junction 40 then follow directions for Keswick turn left on to the B5322 signposted Threlkeld to join the A591 direction for Windermere follow this road past Grasmere and Rydal and arrive in Ambleside. Follow the one way system round in the right hand lane. The Smallwood is situated half way up Compston Road on the right hand side.

Car Park
The Car park is found at the rear of the building. After following the one way system you will fid your self at the front, you must take the fist right after the guest house and immediately right again.  

By Train
Trains to Windermere and a connecting bus or Taxi to Ambleside. Please consider booking eariler for cheaper tickets at www.nationalrail.co.uk

Ambleside

June 12th - 14th sees the Great North Swim in Windermere. Certain times of the year there are a variety of local theatre productions. Local events include the Lake District Sheep Dog Trials, the Rydal Sheep Dog Trials, Grasmere Sports, Ambleside Sports and Ambleside Flower Show.

Grasmere has Dove Cottage with Rydal Mount close by, both former homes of William Wordsworth. Sawrey is where Beatrix Potter's characters sprang to life. At Grizedale Forest you'll find a fascinating sculputure trail, while Brantwood (John Ruskin's home) offers you an insight into the life of this influential writer.
